The trailblazing Syansyan – The young Taiwanese wrestler forging a bridge to Japan
Syansyan is a young wrestler following her dream. It’s a story that you see all the time in entertainment, someone upending their entire life, ignoring the naysayers, and just going for it. For Syansyan “it”, is becoming a pro wrestler.
That’s a difficult task in Taiwan, she is one of only two full-time female wrestlers in the country. Even at 19, Syansyan’s goal was not just to grow as a competitor, but to grow the artform as a whole in Taiwan. To do that, she had to leave the country and find guidance from some of the most important people in womens’ wrestling.
Just a month after her New Taiwan Pro Wrestling debut, she made another huge debut, in World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana, a promotion run by Japanese Womens’ Wrestling legend Kyoko Inoue, and features other legends and long-time veterans like Jaguar Yokota, Ayako Sato, and many others. It’s also been a place where young talent begins to thrive, it was home to Sareee (Formerly WWE’s Sarray), and is currently home to Haruka Umesaki, one of the scene’s brightest young stars. The promotion also regularly features guests, just adding to the appeal for a young star in the making.
With those tools, Syansyan’s personal journey has all of its bases covered. But her larger goal, growing women’s wrestling in Taiwan, seems like a huge mountain to climb. However, through her work with Diana, she has created a bridge to Taiwan that has seen legends make the trip over to her homeland.
In November of 2024, Diana ran their own event in Taiwan and brought over an all-star lineup, all the aforementioned legends, plus guests including Modern Deathmatch Icon Risa Sera, the masked phenom Honoka, and Diana’s young, Yuma Makoto, Mizuki Kato, Nanami – and not-so-young stars Deborah K and Himiko. An event that would have been impossible without Syansyan.
And sure, maybe the talks that made the collaborative event happen didn’t include her, but her presence, and her drive, her determination to chase her dream and work with her idols has led herself, and womens’ wrestling in Taiwan to this moment. Syansyan was the catalyst.
When Syansyan first started on this path, like many others chasing a crazy dream, she had her naysayers. Her parents didn’t approve of the choice, thinking professional wrestling was not for women. Heck, since it was so rare, she found herself wrestling mostly men in Taiwan. But not even a year later, she’s redefining pro wrestling in Taiwan. Maybe in a few years, Syansyan will inspire more women to join her – but even now, that dream of growing the sport is coming true.

Her personality and how she sees herself is another part of what makes her someone so easy to root for.
